This like many smart devices function on 2G. My modem was updated by my provider. The 2G and 5G are now on one network. The previous version had them separate.
It took some finagaling to turn off the advanced/smart wifi via my android. I also had to restart modem and reset the device a few times. It's working well and as designed now.
Ring customer service was also helpful.
I have multiple Ring products and just added this security camera. Ring has gone the extra mile to ensure the setup is as easy as possible. Generally, the most difficult part of hanging an electrical fixture, which is essentially what this is, is holding it in place while connecting the wires. The Ring team simplified this by adding a hook on the included base and a ribbon with a metal clasp on the light/camera that fits over the hook. Thus, you can hang the light/camera from the already mounted base while attaching the wire nuts.
This floodlight cam has great motion sensing capabilities and the lights illuminate a broad area very well. If anything, the motion sensing is too good. Even with the motion sensing areas defined, it still can pick up motion in my neighbor’s driveway or on the street. Video quality is excellent as is the field of view. It’s a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth it.
I had a little difficulty setting it up (I downloaded the wrong app), but now it works as I hoped it would. It's facing the street, so I bypassed motion alerts, but receive alerts when it detects a person. Most of them are people walking down the sidewalk, but there's only so far you can limit the detection zone and still get the alerts you want to see. My only gripe with the camera is it takes 8 - 10 seconds before the alert pops up on my phone and the video is available. The message gets to Alexa almost instantly, but you can't view the video until it makes it to your phone. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my Ring Motion Detector Floodlight.
I bought this security camera because of Ring's reputation. However, I have had nothing but problems since I got it and have contacted support a few times. One told me to turn on Smart Alerts; another one tole me to turn it off. If I turn on Smart Alerts so that I can set it to detect motion for people only, it doesn't give me an alert unless I'm directly under the camera even though the sensitivity it set up all the way. If I turn off the Smart Alerts, I get a notification a lot sooner, but every time a car passes my house at night the headlights set off the motion detection. No winning here...
